Hocus Pocus 2 Review! + Comparison
WARNING! This Blog Post May Contain Spoilers For Hocus Pocus (1993) and Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
Hi guys! So a couple nights ago me and family sat down, lit a candle, and watched the whole hour and 43 minutes of the newly released movie, Hocus Pocus 2, the sequel to the very famous original from 1993. So I thought why not review it for you all today, and maybe, possibly, compare the two 😅🤷 Alright, let's get started!
Now let's talk about the original to refresh your memory, shall we?
Hocus Pocus: (1993)
A Short Description of The Plot with Notes I Took from Wikipedia:
In their new home Salem, Massachusetts. Max, his little sister, Dani, and Max's new 'friend', Allison; decide to explore an abandoned witches cabin. Max then lights the black flame candle, and the infamous Sanderson Sisters come alive! So now they must defeat them, with the help of a trapped soul.
Now Hocus Pocus (1993) is one of my favorite Halloween movies! But my Dad was pointing out, is it really good? Or do we just like it for nostalgic purposes?
Now honestly I'm not sure myself 😅 I really love Hocus Pocus ❤️ but I'm not sure if it's necessarily a well made movie, you know? I also think the overall vibe and nostalgia does help make it a better movie. I don't know, what do you think?
Now let's chat about the sequel, before moving on to the comparison
Hocus Pocus 2: (2022)
A Short Description of The Plot with Notes I Took from Wikipedia:
When three young, teenage girls accidentally light the black flame candle, releasing the Sanderson Sisters, again! The girls must stop them before they reek havoc on their spooky town.
I had pretty low expectations for this movie. I mean from the trailer it didn't look very good, in my opinion, and it's a sequel, made almost 30 years later from the original, which was, and maybe still is, one of the most popular Halloween movies ever. So that's pretty hard to beat, don't you think? B-u-t this movie was actually very good! The comedy was amazing, the spooky vibe was perfect, the acting was very good, and the references were awesome!
I have to say this was by far the best part of this whole movie!
And it paid an homage to the vacuum scene from the first movie 😅
Also the actress who played young Winifred was incredible! She played her the exact same way Bette Milder does, it's amazing <3

The songs in the movie were also pretty good. I'm glad they didn't do a song every five seconds like most Disney movies, they just did a few good songs. I would have liked if they did I Put A Spell On You as one of there songs, which I really thought they would do, but oh well 🤷 I also would have liked if they would have had one of the original main characters in this sequel, even if it was just for one scene, like Max, Dani, Allison, or Thackery.
But is anyone going to mention how this is literally Binx?
But seriously Gilbert was definitely one of the best characters in this movie ❤
Okay I'm going to be honest I almost cried watching the scene where Sarah and Mary disappeared 😭 just because I'm really close with my sisters and they mean so much to me ❤️ Anyone else cry? Or am I just over emotional 😅
Anyway, overall I think this is a great family friendly movie to watch during Halloween season. I really enjoyed it! I would recommend! <3 I will give it a solid 6.7/10
Now it's time for the moment you've all been waiting for..The Comparison!
Hocus Pocus (1993)
Now in my opinion both movies are really good <3 But I think the original, Hocus Pocus (1993) is going to take the win on this one. I mean come on it's a very rare occasion that the sequel is better than the original, but I suppose it can happen sometimes. Let me know which YOU think should win? Anyway, I highly recommend both movies if you haven't seen them yet :)
I hope you guys enjoyed this blog post, let me know what you think of both Hocus Pocus movies? And I will see you guys next time. Bye!

What Halloween Movie Do You Suggest For Me To Watch?
You bring up good points for each movie. I think the first one was better just in the originality score. But I really liked the redemptive arch of the sequel.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! They are both good movies :)
